Even as Colm kissed her, he knew it was a bad idea. The worst. But also, one of the best. They had agreed to the boundaries. But her lips were there, gleaming in the kitchen’s light. The night together, even with her brother and friends, had been fun and relaxing. Instead of taking the kiss deeper like his body demanded, he broke it.

Colm was marginally satisfied by the hazy look of lust that was in her eyes when she finally opened them. “I’m sorry.”

“Hmmmm?”

“Remember, boundaries?”

“Oh, yeah. Boundaries…”

He waited for her to say more, or even kick his ass, but all she did was stand there, looking up at him. What finally brought her back to Earth was a call from one of the bedrooms. Rory came into the kitchen a minute later, holding out a cell phone. “Mum wants to talk with you.”

“I definitely should go then. I’ll talk with you tomorrow?”

She nodded and put the phone up to her ear.

Rory followed him out. “Nice to meet you. You enjoying DC?”

“So far.” He opened the door and Rory held it for him.

“Good to hear. Just so you know, Radhika’s the best.”

He heard the harder edge in the younger man’s voice. “I know.”

Rory stared at him for a long minute before nodding. “See you around.” And with that he closed the door in Colm’s face.

He managed to bite back his laugh until he got in the elevator. Even if her mother hadn’t called, tonight was not the night to have the conversation he wanted to have with her.

When he got home, he checked his emails and found a response from one legislator’s staffer and another agreeing to a site visit in Colorado. He checked the clock and realized it was later than he’d thought. After setting a timer so he’d remember to go to bed at a somewhat reasonable time, he dug into the emails.
